Life Wonk

Celebrating The Dream

All of my life, the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday has been a day off of school and work, reflecting on the dream that Dr. King dreamed for our futures.

In 2004, I cast a vote for a man for US Senator with a funny name, I knew little about. In February 2007, I recognized the dream when said senator announced his candidacy for the Presidency. A year later, $200 million and counting in grassroots fundraising, 38 delegates (to her 36 delegates) going into the Democratic National Convention, on this observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday I celebrate the actualization of his dream.

Senator Barack Obama is very well on his way to becoming the Democratic Nominee for president. I say this not due to polling, debates, his charisma, but it his willingness to stand up in a time where someone needs to stand up for change with no pretense, just as Dr. King did.

View Senator Obama’s speech at Ebenezer Baptist Church yesterday in Atlanta.

I am celebrating the dream. Now the next step is finding my place in the contribution to the changes that are beginning to mobilize.

Blogging again…

Well this post should be called writing again. I have a rare form of ADD called D-ADD, Denial of Attention Deficit Disorder, to where I know I want to do things, but my random interest in everything causes everything else I started in limbo. I am no doctor, so I shouldn’t self diagnose. I think I am a big procrastinator. This introduction is an example of such procrastination, as most of the information you are reading is completely irrelevant to the whole point of this blog.

Which leads me to my next point, I really don’t have one. As many of my dedicated blog readers know, I have been on a quest to make my blog popular, make it acceptable, get on digg.com or AC, have virtual debates via comments, you know a blogger’s dream. This desire to be accepted by people I do not know, or perhaps never meet, has left my real life and like a Trojan horse virus, and infected the part of my brain that infected my writing.

I not had a writers block when it comes to blogging, its just sometimes, I feel too whiny, too ignored, too radical, too liberal, too extreme, too pressured to be something I created in my imagination that the world would appreciate. I lost my passion and purpose for blogging because I was writing to please people, instead of the original purpose which is to use the written word to inform, reform, inspire, teach, warn the people. I admit my writing would be catered to what I thought and sometimes presumed to know what people hail me for.

Then I got poetry again…. On a different level, like never before. Writing poetry again gives me the freedom to draw concrete conclusions from abstract thoughts. For a long time I had not written poetry, because I began blogging. When i stopped blogging, the poetry came again. So much so, I will post my poetry on a separate blog, because I like creating new blogs. (not really, its just easier that way). I also wanted to allow people to read, critique and share their poetry. If you want to submit, email poetryagain@gmail.com.

With that said, I am blogging again. I am not too sure what the subject matter, tone, or direction of Lifewonk.com. Then again, it is life, who is really sure of anything, right?
