Life Wonk

Celebrating The Dream

All of my life, the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday has been a day off of school and work, reflecting on the dream that Dr. King dreamed for our futures.

In 2004, I cast a vote for a man for US Senator with a funny name, I knew little about. In February 2007, I recognized the dream when said senator announced his candidacy for the Presidency. A year later, $200 million and counting in grassroots fundraising, 38 delegates (to her 36 delegates) going into the Democratic National Convention, on this observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday I celebrate the actualization of his dream.

Senator Barack Obama is very well on his way to becoming the Democratic Nominee for president. I say this not due to polling, debates, his charisma, but it his willingness to stand up in a time where someone needs to stand up for change with no pretense, just as Dr. King did.

View Senator Obama’s speech at Ebenezer Baptist Church yesterday in Atlanta.

I am celebrating the dream. Now the next step is finding my place in the contribution to the changes that are beginning to mobilize.
