Not too long ago, I would come home and watch the evening ‘news’ until I passed out. I used to even sit through the dead punditry on all the networks. The more I thought about it, I realized our media is one big smoke and mirrors act and the Rethugs are the magicians behind this act.
I am not sure who made the decision, but somehow it was made to end all real journalism, which meant asking the tough questions, holding officials accountable for their words and deed and actually working for the people they report. The conservatives have somehow gotten their slimy little claws in the control rooms of our Press Core and have replaced true journalists with racist, sexist, evil, or plain annoying pundits and give them unprecedented screentime; some broadcasting twice a night (thanks CNN… as if I did not get enough of Nancy Grace and Glenn Beck, I get to watch them again in less than two hours!).
I believe the rethugs tried their hand at using the media to sway mass public opinion with the Clinton Impeachment. They made him out to be a big philanderer, cheater, and liar. And we all know what he did….’look at Monica, you wouldn’t lie either, she wasnt Marilyn?!’ Yet, very few of the reporters they have on television now act as though they have the cahones of a squirrel and are too scared to say that W. and the his Rethug pals has lied about 9-11, the War in Iraq, WMD, Al-Qeada, Saddam, Gitmo, Abu Grabe, Pat Tillman, Jessica Lynch, the outed CIA operative, Walter Reed, Gonzo, and more… The fact that I did no goggling or any other research to figure this out, just from my memory. Thats the sad part, these are the real issues, the real questions we should be asking. Why did you lie about Pat Tillman’s death? Mr. Rethuglican, why wont you talk to Cindy Sheehan?–Speaking of which the media made her look like a mad woman. I don’t think its an unusual request for the parent of a murder victim to want to look in the eyes of the man who murdered him and ask him ‘why?’
I think this administration wants the entire country to be just as dumb as they are. This is why we are inindated with coverage of Anna Nicoles death (Howard K.Stern did it but no one is investigating that), Britney Spears, Paris Hiton, dead or missing blondes thanks to Nancy Grace or tapes of Alec Baldwin yelling at his daughter, or the worst, David Hasselhoff drunk on tape. Who really gives a damn?
Why am I the only one bothered by the fact that there is someone in Iraq, my age, with dreams and aspirations, but that person cannot follow them because of the irresposible, selfish, inhumane, satanic acts for the Rethugs in America? Imagine living in a place to where you wake up with the idea that your chances of being blown up checking the mail are the same as your chances of getting spam email. Maybe if the media would report the realities versus the scum of our society, then the people of this country would wake up and expect more from themselves and their government.
